satellite dish

.Satellite dishes were very common to see on houses in the early 2000s. These dishes were considered geostarionary, meaning that they remained in a fixed position on Earths surface. As the Earth rotated, the dish was able to move fast enough to maintain alignment with the satellite in space.

As technology advanced, satellites became smaller and went from analog to digital. In 2009, tv sales went up after this change, and  companies came out with a digital converter box you could connect to your older tv to have it work digitally without needing to purchase a new TV

One company we may all be familiar with is Dish TV. When I was younger we had a dish satellite on my house, this was how we watched cable tv (which funny enough, both my parents absolutely hated). Companies introduced digital boxes, and homeowners were then able to switch to cable or streaming services without the need of a satellite, allowing for people to remove the dish from their homes (which then allowed my dad to climb up a ladder onto the roof and kick it down)
